discovering the dreamy world of Marc Chagall
By 3rd year classes
After visiting the exhibition at Candiani , in Mestre and interacting with the guide we experimented a group artwork in
Chagall’s style. It should reflect our thoughts, feelings, likes and dislikes, childhood memories and dreams.
Does the painting remind you of a dream?
At school we had a google quiz on the exhibition and then we tried to describe a painting by Chagall.
“I firstly noticed a giant goat on the left side of the painting staring at a person who seems to smile and I personally think It’s Mark Chagall himself since there’s a ring on the finger below. The unknown person on the image is also holding something which seems to be some kind of flower or an olive branch. I don’t think anyone could tell exactly what are the meanings of some certain objects or other stuff so I guess we can only imagine what they mean ourselves. I honestly don’t really like his art style it’s a little bit weird but the colours he use amaze me. I can’t think of what he wanted to express by drawing a woman milking a cow and someone with a scythe that seems to threaten another person who is upside down. Last of all I see many religious items such as a cross necklace and a church above.” By ED 3D
“He was born in a poor village and that’s why this art reflects his connection to his roots, meaning his home. I think he used watercolor for this painting. There are many elements that you usually see in villages, for example, a farmer, a goat, a cow etc. There’s a man, who’s holding a tree and facing towards a goat. I think they refer to his dream about his village, where he used to live. That’s why it’s called ”I and the Village”. By KR 3A
“The painting is really unusual and so are the colours’ position… The background of the painting is red and pink, I think it has been inspired by Picasso’s cubism style. I’m sure that in the painting there are a lot of symbols that I haven’t noticed.” By PP, 3D
